HOW IMPORTANT IS READING?

Keep It Pushin’ Productions is addressing the issue of the reading problem in America with the Urban Fiction, “Heavy in the Game” by J. Love.

Los Angeles, California – October 14, 2009 – According to the National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP), 60 percent of America's prison inmates are illiterate and 85% of all juvenile offenders have reading problems. Also, 44 million adults in the U.S. can't read well enough to read a simple story to a child. Keep It Pushin’ Productions objective is to diminish the percentages of these statistics.

Heavy in the Game is a novel that is based on true events and J. Love’s real experiences in the streets of south-central Los Angeles. Being that the story has a significant connection between generations, “Heavy in the Game” is certain to bridge the gap in communications along with sending a positive message in the discussions that will be sure to come from the different scenes in the novel. J. Love says, “This book is one that both the parents and their teens can share. I have received lots of e-mails from parents stating that they enjoyed the book along with their teenage son or daughter.” This is a definite plus when introducing reading in the life of a teenager. A special education teacher, Deidra Bowen says, “When a child witnesses their parent reading, they will more than likely have a tendency to also want to read.” Approximately 50 percent of the nation's unemployed youth age 16-21 are functional illiterate, with virtually no prospects of obtaining good jobs. This is a serious issue that is being overlooked in many parts of our country and sections of our community. Reading affects the outcome of many stages in life which makes reading very important.
While this novel is only suitable for ages 15 and up, Keep It Pushin’ Productions is working hard on soon releasing a series of books for a younger group to begin the process of reducing the reading problem that exist in America. We all must be held responsible in order to make a difference. For more information, please visit our website at www.jlovebooks.com.

Making A Difference in the Inner-City Classrooms

Keep It Pushin’ Productions is determined to make a difference in the publishing industry with its debut novel, “Heavy in the Game” by J. Love.
Los Angeles, California – October 9, 2009 – “Heavy in the Game” is so real, vivid, and relatable it will provide a validation and reflection of the teen’s ages 15 and up outer and inner lives that few other teen media outlets consider. What sets this novel apart from the majority is, aside from an entertaining read, the story has many messages to learn from. Unlike most street fictions, this story tells of the struggles and consequences when living the street life. This novel does not paint a picture that will leave a desire to be a part of the streets, which is why it’s sure to make an impact on the minds of the youth.

Heavy in the Game is a novel based on true events of a single father who is a hustler and the domino effect his life has on the people around him. The message in this novel is to redirect the lives of the youth so that they will not make the same mistakes that have led many to either jail or death. The purpose of the first release from Keep It Pushin’ Productions is to make reading interesting and familiar to the inner-city students in classrooms. J. Love says, “I believe that reading brings forth better comprehension and comprehending is one of the main tools in learning.” A special education teacher, Deidra Bowen says, “The novel “Heavy in the Game” was an amazing story. As a teacher, I would love to use this book as a teaching tool for my students. Activities like an Open-Minded portrait would be great in getting my students to read and write. Making the connection between the Hip Hop culture and this book would be ideal in grabbing the student’s attention.” J. Love says, “Hip Hop music and Street Lit are one in the same except in the literary form, the story is not accompanied by beats and rhythm leaving room to think.”
